Theme of Trust Between Epistemology and Ethics

    Get PDF
The article aims to clarify the philosophical path around the theme of trust; the relevance of this philosophical category is linked to both the epistemological and ethical dimensions. The problem of the risk of trust is the ethical philosophy of our time, above all because of the phenomenon of migration, the recent pandemic, the economic and political question. Returning to the work of David Hume we try to explain the empirical analysis of this theme in a perspective of a new era of trust. The epistemological foundation of trust clarifies the relationship with justice and pluralism, a source of positive resources but also of important problems

    Gilles Deleuze storico della filosofia

    Get PDF

Opportunities for heat pumps adoption in existing buildings: real-data analysis and numerical simulation

    Get PDF
The space heating of buildings represents one of the most important causes of energy consumption in Europe. The necessity to increase the share of renewable energy within the sector is hindered by the difficulty to renew and refurbish the existing building stock. In this context, heat pumps can have an important role in helping increase the renewable share of thermal energy production for the civil sector, in particular in those countries in which the electricity generation mix has large contributions from renewable energy sources. The paper presents a real-data analysis and a numerical simulation to evaluate the opportunity to substitute traditional heat generation systems (natural gas boilers) with air-source heat pumps or hybrid solutions. Three buildings located in Turin (Italy) are taken as case-study, and the hourly profiles of outdoor temperature, water supply temperature and absorbed thermal power are used to simulate four heat generation scenarios, that are compared in terms of primary energy consumption. Results show that (1) the substitution of the traditional natural gas boiler with a heat pump (with backup electric resistance) is always favorable (18% to 32% of primary energy reduction); (2) the influence of water supply temperature of each building on the overall primary energy saving is very high; (3) the adoption of a hybrid system (heat pump and natural gas boiler working alternatively) provides advantages in terms of reduced primary energy consumption only if the required supply water temperature is high. Further studies will investigate the economic aspects and will introduce comparisons with condensation natural gas boilers

Tractor cabin ergonomics analyses by means of Kinect motion capture technology

    Get PDF
Kinect is the de facto standard for real-time depth sensing and motion capture cameras. The sensor is here proposed for exploiting body tracking during driving operations. The motion capture system was developed taking advantage of the Microsoft software development kit (SDK), and implemented for real-time monitoring of body movements of a beginner and an expert tractor drivers, on different tracks (straight and with curves) and with different driving conditions (manual and assisted steering). Tests show how analyses can be done not only in terms of absolute movements, but also in terms of relative shifts, allowing for quantification of angular displacements or rotations

Vasculitides associated with IgG antineutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibodies in childhood

    Get PDF
Immunoglobulin (Ig)G antineutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibodies are causally associated with necrotizing vasculitides that are characterized immunopathologically by little or no deposition of immunoreactants, such as Wegener granulomatosis, microscopic polyangiitis, Churg-Strauss angiitis, "renal-limited" vasculitis and a number of drug-induced vasculitides. Clinical routine testing targets the antigens myeloperoxidase and proteinase 3. However, in all of the conditions mentioned, the renal histopathologic findings are indistinguishable. Churg-Strauss angiitis (characterized by necrotizing vasculitis, granulomatous inflammation and tissue eosinophilia), Wegener granulomatosis (characterized by necrotizing vasculitis and granulomatous inflammation) and microscopic polyangiitis (characterized by necrotizing vasculitis) often present with fever, weight loss and a multisystem involvement (ear, nose, throat, lung, eyes, peripheral nerve and heart). Fifty years ago these conditions were very often fatal within 6months of diagnosis. The introduction of corticosteroids and cyclophosphamide has resulted in a dramatic clinical benefit. Patients who develop treatment-related morbidity can be switched from cyclophosphamide to azathioprine after achieving remission. In patients with less severe disease, methotrexate achieves remission with a success rate similar to that of cyclophosphamide. Plasma exchange, in association with immunosuppression, is likely to be a beneficial therapy for patients with severe kidney disease or pulmonary hemorrhag

Acute hemorrhagic edema of young children: a concise narrative review

    Get PDF
Acute hemorrhagic edema of young children is an uncommon but likely underestimated cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis. The condition typically affects infants 6-24months of age with a history of recent respiratory illness with or without course of antibiotics. The diagnosis is made in children, mostly nontoxic in appearance, presenting with nonpruritic, large, round, red to purpuric plaques predominantly over the cheeks, ears, and extremities, with relative sparing of the trunk, often with a target-like appearance, and edema of the distal extremities, ears, and face that is mostly non-pitting, indurative, and tender. In boys, the lesions sometimes involve the scrotum and, more rarely, the penis. Fever, typically of low grade, is often present. Involvement of body systems other than skin is uncommon, and spontaneous recovery usually occurs within 6-21days without sequelae. In this condition, laboratory tests are non-contributory: total blood cell count is often normal, although leukocytosis and thrombocytosis are sometimes found, clotting studies are normal, erythrocyte sedimentation rate and C-reactive protein test are normal or slightly elevated, complement level is normal, autoantibodies are absent, and urinalysis is usually normal. Experienced physicians rapidly consider the possible diagnosis of acute hemorrhagic edema when presented with a nontoxic young child having large targetoid purpuric lesions and indurative swelling, which is non-pitting in character, and make the diagnosis either on the basis of clinical findings alone or supported by a skin biopsy stud

Selection of macrophytes by a generalist invertebrate herbivore and potential impacts for stream rehabilitation

    Get PDF
Macrophytes play an important role as resource for herbivores. When they are introduced into streams by, rehabilitation projects herbivores might be attracted to this new food source. Thus, it is important to know the palatability of macrophytes, especially when high densities of herbivores with a high relative consumption rate (RCR) are present. Plant traits influencing herbivory could be an indicator for macrophyte selection in rehabilitation projects. In the laboratory, we assessed the RCR and preference of Pomacea canaliculata for Ludwigia peploides, Gymnocoronis spilanthoides, and Egeria densa, and linked it to plant chemical and structural traits. We also analysed the use of these macrophytes by the snail in plants transplanted into a recently dredged stream. The macrophyte beds transplanted were the only plants present in the stream. Plants and snails were sampled and snail egg masses quantified. In the laboratory, the RCR of E. densa was significantly lower than that of the other species, and the snails did not show any preference among macrophytes. The only trait related to palatability was dry matter content. The abundance of snails in transplanted beds was higher in E. densa and G. spilanthoides, and lower on L. peploides despite its highest coverage. The abundance of egg masses was the highest on G. spilanthoides. This indicates that Pomacea canaliculata exhibited active selection and differential use of transplanted macrophytes. In conclusion, L. peploides would be less affected by a generalist invertebrate herbivore and a suitable option to transplant into stream channels for rehabilitation projects.Fil: Paz, Laura Estefania. COVID-19 and digital acceleration: An investigation about citizens’ perception of digitalized public services in Italy

    Get PDF
The COVID-19 pandemic has helped to move many daily activities online that could hardly have been conducted in respect of social distancing, from education to free time, to recreation, to contact with friends. The public sector has also suffered from this need by responding with great acceleration on existing digital public services and by facilitating the access of others through online tools and platforms. Through an exploratory research design, this paper qualitatively investigates the effects of the acceleration of digitization on the perceived utility and quality of public services in Italy as the first nation and most affected by the wave of infections. The results show that accelerating the digital transition has positive effects on citizens’ perception of the activity of the Public Administration, specifically, positively influencing citiziens’ perception of digitalized public services in Italy. Moreover, we shed light on four main topic useful to led future strategies in terms of: 1) New technologies integration and citiziens’ assistance; 2) Hybridization of digital services; 3) The role of age: Elderly citizens and socialization; and 4) Digital skills gap reduction strategies. Relevant implications for managers and policymakers are discussed together with some suggestions to led future public digitalization strategies
